KARACHI: Waqas Sher’s first innings half-century, coupled with Khurram’s three wickets, powered Johar Jawans to a dominant nine-wicket victory over DHA Dabangs in the 27th match of the Karachi Tape Ball Premier League (KTPL) Season 4 here at the Moin Khan Academy on Friday.
Opting to bat first, the Dabangs registered a formidable total of 113/4 on the board, thanks to Arsalan Jamshed’s swashbuckling half-century.
The opening batter top-scored for the Dabangs in the first innings with a 21-ball 71, studded with four fours and eight sixes.
Besides him, fellow opener Waqas (14) and Saqib (10) were the other notable run-getters.
Khurram was the standout bowler for the the Jawans, picking up three wickets for just six runs in his two overs, while M Jahanzaib picked one.
In response, the Jawans amassed 109/2 in their allotted six overs, courtesy of a match-defining 86-run partnership for the second wicket between Waqas and M Mairaj.
Waqas remained the top-scorer for the Jawans with an unbeaten 51 from just 18 balls, while Mairaj scored a 14-ball 38.
With a four-run lead in their favour, the Dabangs notched up 97 runs for the loss of two wickets in their allotted six overs and set the Jawans a daunting 102-run target.
Leading the way for the Dabangs in the second innings was skipper Khurram Shahzad Chakwal, who scored 53 off 20 deliveries, laced with five fours and four sixes, while Arsalan chipped in with 28 runs.
For the Jawans, Asad Ullah Hamza and Mursleen claimed one wicket apiece.
Chasing a daunting 102-run target, the Jawans knocked the winning runs for the loss of just one wicket and five balls to spare.
Waqas led his side from the front in the pursuit as well by scoring a 12-ball 35, while his fellow opener Abdul Basit made 33 from 11 deliveries.
For his batting exploits, Waqas was adjudged the player of the match.
